Campaign Initiatives

State of the Art Academic Buildings
The three major classroom spaces on the campus are The Duncan Science Building, the Tubman Building, and Price Hall. All were built before 1970. Therefore, if we are to provide the level of classroom instruction needed to produce highly qualified students, we must build new state-of-the-art spaces to help accomplish this feat while simultaneously renovating the existing classroom buildings.

Gymnasium/Field House
The New Trent Gymnasium was constructed over 30 years ago. As such, it lacks many of the current amenities suitable to hosting top quality athletic competitions. The physical education department also lacks adequate space to conduct required physical activities. The additional office space and a field house will enhance the opportunities for ongoing success for the men’s football team.

We remain steadfast in our goal to educate our diverse student clientele and prepare them for life beyond the Maples and the Oaks, and we do that with an equally diverse and highly competent faculty. We believe our students have the intellectual capability to succeed, and there is growing evidence to prove that belief correct. Our number of professors holding terminal degrees has grown. Our financial forecast is still bright as we are reducing the college’s debt while increasing its assets. The Endowment Fund is crucial to the long- term sustainability of Livingstone College.

We are seeking to boost funding for the general scholarship fund by $5 million. The general scholarship fund provides Livingstone College with crucial funds to address the financial needs of the nine out of ten students who qualify for federal financial aid. Increasing the scholarship fund will enable Livingstone College to create new scholarships. It will also provide financial means of assisting those students who may be on the cusp of academic greatness, but require additional assistance to fulfill their potential and realize their dreams.

The ongoing professional development of faculty and staff is vital to the forward progress of the college. This $5 million in funding is needed to provide ongoing opportunities for faculty members continue to develop their professional abilities. It will allow them to interact with other renowned scholars in the U.S. and around the world, and to stay abreast of the latest advancement in their fields. In turn, qualified faculty from other institutions also desire to teach and conduct research at Livingstone College, thus enhancing the learning experience on campus. The staff complements the work of the faculty and is engaged in the delivery of critical services that support both the academic and student life programs of the college. With reduced levels of outside funding, particularly at the state level, we must strengthen our internal support so that we can continue to provide the development opportunities that enable our faculty and staff to provide the highest quality educational experience for our students.

Livingstone College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the associate of science and baccalaureate degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, or call 404-679-4501 for questions about the accreditation of Livingstone College.
